The Vancouver Art Gallery’s enormously popular FUSE brings the crowd into the Gallery on the night of November 29th, from 8 pm to 1 am. Inspired by artist Kimsooja’s work that encourages human interaction, this FUSE event features its largest number of artists and performers to date, bringing sociability to the forefront through integrating unique ways of relationship building throughout the evening.
Some highlights of FUSE: Crowd Studies
• Join Douglas Coupland, in collaboration with the Vancouver Lego Club, to build a Lego tower for a crowd-sourced art project for Douglas Coupland’s upcoming exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery in summer 2014.
• Artist Kimsooja presents her critically acclaimed performance art work, Beggar Woman, joined by 14 local performers and dance artists.
• Service oriented artist collective Instant Coffee creates “anti-social sculptures” that make you reflect on the slogan: Get social or get lost.
• Take part in Germaine Koh’s League project, where audience members are invited to play invented games with a new set of rules.
• DB Boyko and the Voice Over Mind Choir activates the Rotunda with a large-scale, participatory choral piece. Engage both body and mind in this expansive sound work.
• Hannah Jickling and Helen Reed bring crowd surfing to everyday life. Watch for their unique intervention outside the Gallery.
In addition to performances, FUSE-goers can see six current exhibitions: Charles Edenshaw, Kimsooja Unfolding, Muntadas: Entre/Between, James Hart: The Dance Screen (The Scream Too), Emily Carr in Haida Gwaii, and In Dialogue with Carr: Gareth Moore – Allochthonous Window.
