This August, I spent the day with a visit to Langley and had my friend Nikki Caine who is a teacher at a local high school join me. She also shares a passion for great food, after a 45 minute drive heading East from Vancouver, we arrived at Krause Berry Farms.
After a tour of their 200 acre farm lead by Alf Krause (co-owner) passing the corn fields, strawberries, blueberries, and other vegetables that they grow; Sandee Krause (co-owner) put me and Nikki to work in their kitchen. We were there to learn about their farm, from growing their fruits and vegetables to harvesting to cooking and baking.
They grow the strawberries, harvest them, then in the kitchen they dip them in dark chocolate then decorate them by drizzling white chocolate over them, this looked a lot easier to do than we thought.
On the farm they grow lots of corn, one of the most delicious items on their menu in their Porch Restaurant is Roasted Corn Pizza. Nikki and I got a first-hand look at how they make the corn pizza, literally that is.
The farm grows strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries they also make their own ice cream with these berries.
Nikki and I were then shown how they make their donuts and we were then shown how to dip the donuts in the lavender icing. After the donuts we watched the cooks make their berry custard pies opting out of making those ourselves although it looked easy. For our final adventure in the kitchen we learned how they make their fudge and then tasted some of their berry fudge.
Public tours are available, call them or visit their website for details.
