Last night I attended a tantalizing preview featuring 200 artists whose work will be available for one night only June 25th, 2011. One of Vancouver’s most ground breaking art events, The Cheaper Show is celebrating its 10th anniversary showcasing artists from 16 countries. The show, a one-night art extravaganza that features some 400 pieces of work from 200 artists, attracted over 7,000 visitors in a single evening in 2010. The hook? Each piece, no matter the artist, the size, or the medium, sells for just $200.

Here are a couple of local artists that I had the pleasure to meet during the evening.

Artist: David Long

David created a 3d plastic series of the Mcnasty Mansion which can be seen here at http://everydaydesign.ca/mcnastymansion/photos/

Artist: Matias Armendaris

Matias created a couple of illustrations that are very unique, originally from Equador he now lives in Vancouver, his collection can be seen here http://www.matiasarmendaris.com/

The 200 artists in this year’s show were selected from over 1200 applicants from 50 countries as far away as Kenya, Slovakia, the Philippines, Venezuela and the United Arab Emirates. Lead Curator Jessica Delorme has selected a group of artists that includes painters, sculptors, photographers and videographers for the tenth anniversary edition.
