ReACT: New Plays in Progress

The Arts Club presents a series of free readings in November as part of its ReACT: New Plays in Progress initiative. Now in its 14th year, the program will showcase some of Vancouver’s top playwriting talent from November 2–9 with new works by Dorothy Dittrich, Meghan Gardiner, Amiel Gladstone and Veda Hille, Courtenay Ennis and Roger Haskett, David King, and Corey Payette. These works will be read by professional theatre actors, with post-reading discussions encouraging audience members to share first impressions while the creative team provide their own insights. Arts Club’s Literary Manager Rachel Ditor and Artistic Managing Director Bill Millerd will share hosting duties.

“The ReACT series of readings is one of our most vital activities to bring new works to the stage,” said Millerd. “I am particularly excited about this year’s collection as it includes three plays we have commissioned. I am looking forward to hearing the works, and also the audience’s reactions, as they are important collaborators in this process.”

“All the playwrights featured in ReACT have compelling stories to tell. Stories that grab our attention, and stay in our thoughts long after the lights come up,” said Ditor. “This year we have three musicals, each lively and entirely different in content and style, as well as three plays that wrestle intelligently and with great compassion on themes of love and acceptance, loss and vengeance.”
