Maestro Bramwell Tovey returned to Vancouver to conduct the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra with a program that began with a piece by composer Andrew Balfour, entitled –Pyotr’s Dream.
Yefim Bronfman then joined in on piano for the next piece by Ludwig van Beethoven of Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37*, His presence on stage alone sent shivers through the audience, he is an incredible pianist whom I have seen perform a couple of times over the years. He had a great symbiosis in sync with Maestro Tovey for each of the three movements; 1. Allegro con brio 2. Largo 3. Rondo. Allegro and a rousing finish before 3 standing ovations.
Bramwell and the orchestra returned after intermission to perform the next piece by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky of Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36; and this with the 4 movements; 1. Andante sostenuto — Moderato con anima 2. Andantino in modo di canzona 3. Scherzo: Pizzicato ostinato — Allegro 4. Finale: Allegro con fuoco enlightened the audience including myself.
