The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presented their first annual Spring Festival this past April which packed the concert hall for each of their concerts. This inaugural Festival celebrated the works of Sergei Rachmaninoff with sensational pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk and Maestro Bramwell Tovey. Alexander Gavrylyuk performed all five of Rachmaninoff’s works for piano and orchestra, the four piano concertos and the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, in the four performances that made up the Spring Festival of which I took in 2 of the wonderful concerts at the Orpheum Theatre.

Alexander Gavrylyuk is an accomplished pianist watching him play was as wonderful listening to every note, his performance was a true highlight for me this past season.

Make sure you get tickets early next year for their 2nd annual Spring Festival.
