Ballet BC presented Walking Mad & Other Works that I saw at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on March 9th.
The first work was a World Premiere “Between Disappearing and Becoming” inspired by the music of Icelandic composer and cellist Hildur Gudnadóttir. Emily Molnar choreographed this moving work, and an inspiring experience.
Following the first intermission was “Vitulare” another World Premiere by one of Canada’s leading choreographers Aszure Barton who has created a new work for Ballet BC. Following the second intermission was The Canadian Premiere of Walking Mad by choreographer Johan Inger, formerly Artistic Director of Cullberg Ballet and a member of the Royal Swedish Ballet and Netherlands Dance Theatre (NDT), that was set to Ravel’s famous Bolero. The work for 9 dancers reflected the energy and style of the dancers with the music.
The spectacular evening of international work was a riveting approach to contemporary ballet and to the vision of creating dance that moves and captivates the audience.
